The very nature of cast iron is heavy! It can be cast in to detailed items, if chips in the paint are exposed to the weather it will form a thin crust of corrosion which will not spread and not affect the rest of the cast.
When moving cast iron items you need to make sure it’s not dropped or banged and always lift from the thickest part with plenty of support.
