Old Ham Stone Staddle Stones

Old Ham Stone Staddle Stones

We’ve got some old reclaimed staddle stones made from Ham stone, a distinctive golden limestone quarried in South Somerset for hundreds of years. Ham stone has long been used in local architecture, you’ll see it in churches, cottages, and grand country houses across the region. Its warm colour and fine texture make it one of the most recognisable building stones in the West Country.

Staddle stones were originally used as supports for granaries, barns, and hayricks, keeping the structures raised off the ground to stop damp and prevent rodents from climbing up. Over time, they’ve become popular garden features, often used as ornaments, table bases, or boundary markers.

Each of these Ham stone staddle stones has its own shape and character, with the soft weathering and patina that only comes from age. They’re not something we always have, so if you’re looking for a genuine reclaimed piece with local history, get in touch
